Cruise SI 37 : PASSPORT, VISA & HEALTH INFORMATION GUIDE
The information contained here is to be used as a guideline only
DESTINATION – MAURITIUS; REUNION; MADAGASCAR; COMORES; MAPUTO; PORTUGUESE ISLAND
Passport information
- ALL passengers travelling will require a valid passport. This cruise involves leaving South African sovereign territory and, as such requires a valid passport. You can NOT travel by presenting your identity document, driver’s licence or any other form of ID besides a valid passport, should this occur you WILL be denied boarding.
- South African Citizens with dual nationality - MUST USE THEIR SOUTH AFRICAN PASSPORT TO EXIT AND ENTER SOUTH AFRICA.
- Non-South African Citizens/Permanent Residents must have their permanent residence endorsed in their foreign passport.
Mauritius – Port Louis
Visa information
- South African and EU passport holders do not require a visa for Mauritius
Health Requirements
- There are no official health requirements for Mauritius
Reunion – Pointe Des Galets
Visa information
- Visas are not required. SA and all other passport holders are covered by the Captains’ Blanket visa
Health Requirements
- Recommended Vaccination: Hepatitus A; Tetanus
Madagascar – Nosy Be
Visa information
- South African passport holders require a visa for Madagascar. Visas can be obtained on board thru the passengers manifest. A fee is mandatory. The fee in 2008/9 season was USD45 per person – but Madagascar has not yet confirmed the fee for 2009/10 season.
Health Requirements
- Recommended Vaccination: Hepatitus A; Tetanus
Precautions: Madagascar is a Malaria area; however shore landings take place during the day when mosquitoes are least active. Please consult your Doctor; Pharmacist or Travel Clinic.
Comores – Mayotte Island
Visa information
- Visas are not required. SA and all other passport holders are covered by the Captains’ Blanket visa

Mozambique – Maputo & Portuguese Island
Visa information
- Currently South African passport holders do not require visa for Mozambique when travelling aboard the Sinfonia.
- A fee of US$ 25 visa fee will apply to ALL foreign passport holders – this visa is obtained on board and does not have to be pre-arranged.
Health Requirements
- There are no official health requirements for Mozambique.

GENERAL INFO
Every passenger will need a valid passport to clear immigration at the port. The only exceptions are cruises that do not leave South African waters (e.g. Nowhere Cruises or Coastal Cruises between Durban and Cape Town) and should you be traveling on a Nowhere Cruise or a Coastal Cruise between Durban and Cape Town, an official South African ID is required. This ID can be in the form of an ID Book, Passport or Driver’s License. In the case of children traveling on a Nowhere or Coastal Cruise, and if they do not have any other form of positive identification, a birth certificate is required. Children cruising on other cruises ALSO need a passport!
Visas and Inoculations
Tanzania – port of call Zanzibar
All passport holders including South Africans require a visa for Tanzania. The visa can be arranged on board – currently the charge is $50 per person*.
Yellow Fever documentation or a medical note advising an allergy to the vaccination is required to visit Tanzania - whether or not the passenger goes ashore. Boarding may be denied if these regulations are not met.
Kenya – port of call Mombasa
Visas are not required by South African passport holders for a stay of up to 30 days. Visas for non-South African passport holders can be arranged on board – currently the charge is $20 per person*. Yellow Fever documentation or a medical note advising an allergy to the vaccination is required to visit Kenya - whether or not the passenger goes ashore. Boarding may be denied if these regulations are not met.
Reunion
Visas are required for Reunion, and can be arranged with the French Consulate prior to your trip. The current charge is Euros 35 per person* and the processing time for South African passport holders is approximately 2 working days.
South African passport holders do not require visas for Mozambique, Namibia, Mauritius or Seychelles.
Entrance requirements for countries & visa costs change on a regular basis. Although these details were correct as at June 2009, they are subject to change and should be checked prior to cruising.

Leave your passport in your main luggage - If you do it will go on-board and we may not be able to find it amongst thousands of bags! This is YOUR responsibility to ensure that your documents are in hand!!!

Forget your passport at home - If you do you will not be able to sail! This is a ruling by the SA Customs and SARS.
