Tips for passengers new to cruises .

Preparing for your cruise for the first time, can be a daunting task to say the least! "What if I get sea sick? What about the meals? Is it safe?" - These are but some of the many questions that are commonly asked by people on first cruises!

Q: What about sea sickness?
A: This does not affect everybody! If you get car sick or flight sickness, you will probably also become sea sick! Ask your Pharmacist about the many remedies available. My suggestion is that you follow the old rule of thumb, like the sailors did in yesteryear, have a good shot of brandy or rum before you leave port - It helps! Another good idea is to remain on an open deck in fresh air...perhaps sit at the pool or even in it (better)

Q: Are there surprise costs?
A: Generally no! However, a cruise line may apply, like the airlines do, a fuel suppliment at the last minute. You can read more about fuel suppliments here and here. You can of course google the topic!

Q: What about tipping the staff?
A: No cash transactions are allowed on board! MSC will bill you at the end of the cruise a set amount (usually US$3) per person per day for gratuities. This money is split between the whole staff compliment from the steward to the boiler room workers!
